There are all kinds of ways to go bicycle touring. From solo riders with fully loaded panniers to event tour riders whose gear is hauled for them so that they can enjoy a lightweight ride. The "series of day rides" that the big event tours offer are very appealing to riders these days with the popularity of these rides have skyrocketed.
I have participated in many of the local rides – Cycle Oregon, Seattle to Portland, Reach the Beach, Summit to Surf, etc. With every one of these rides, I signed up as a group - a bunch of friends that all decided to go on the same tour together. Cycle Oregon is filled with these informal groups. Groups of up to a dozen or more, all riding and camping together amongst 2000 other people.
I created Unusual Tours in an effort to bring the same kind of experience that you get on big event rides like Cycle Oregon down to groups of 10 or 20 people. We don't have a portable stage and our camp kitchen and showers are housed in tents instead of semi-trailers, but we offer a service that comes pretty close. And best of all, a small group can charter their own custom tour and enjoy it all amongst friends.
We market our services to the kind of individual rider who enjoys organizing a group of friends to get out and ride. Each group organizer is free to create thier own custom tour target at the interests of thier own group of friends. While we make all of the advance preparations for the tour, the group organizer promotes the tour to their own group of friends. For the efforts taken, our group organizers earn discounts off of their own tour costs.
We are particularly proud of our comfort camping setup. It takes all the complications out of planning a small group bicycle tour where you have to camp to get where you want to go. For those of you who are not interested in camping we also support those Inn to Inn tours.
The people who go on our tours have an exceptionally good time. Group riding, and camping, is a very social activity in and of itself, but when the group all knows each other it becomes quite magical. The conversations out on the ride are all amongst friends and the stories told around the campfire at night brings the group together even more.
I look forward to riding with you.
